Thank you to The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (TAANA), TAANA Board of Directors and President Edie Brous RN, Esq, for their overwhelming support of
HR 1119 The National Nurse Act of 2011. Here is the endorsement letter sent to President Teri Mills and
the National Nursing Network Organization's Board of Directors:
Dear President Mills,
The Board of Directors of
The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (TAANA), voted unanimously to support
HR 1119 The National Nurse Act of 2011 during their June, 2011 Board of Directors meeting. TAANA believes the establishment of a more prominent and visible presence of nursing will promote the profession and consequently, the public health.
The National Nurse Act of 2011 is especially appealing to our members, because it takes an existing and already funded position, the Chief Nurse Officer of the USPHS, and asks that this nurse be designated as the National Nurse for Public Health. Bestowing this unique title will provide the necessary authority, stature, impetus and recognition to deliver messages of health promotion and disease prevention.
This timely piece of legislation comes at a time when many individuals in our country suffer with chronic and preventable conditions. Establishing this position will not only reduce the occurrence of illness, but will also decrease the costs for care and services which is critically important as our country continues to deal with economic uncertainty.
TAANA is proud to lend our collective voice towards this effort and strongly supports
HR 1119, The National Nurse Act of 2011 and we look forward to continuing our work with the
National Nursing Network Organization to achieve passage of this legislation.
Sincerely,
Edie Brous RN, BSN, MS, MPH, JD
2011 TAANA President
