The National Nurse Act of 2013 is written to encompass and align with the goals and outcomes of the National Prevention Strategy (NPS). According to the Surgeon General’s website, “The Strategy prioritizes prevention by integrating recommendations and actions across multiple settings to improve health and save lives. It envisions a prevention-oriented society where all sectors recognize the value of health for individuals, families, and society and work together to achieve better health for Americans.”
Each year the National Prevention Council submits a report describing national progress in meeting specific prevention, health promotion, and public health goals defined in the NPS to the President and the relevant committees in Congress.
